Lúa's world I

Lúa's view of work:
When I ask her what she does at work in our pretending games, she says she does tak tak tak on the computer and then watches a few videos (most likely from YouTube, if she imitated her daddy) or a movie. Then she has a coffee and goes home to pick up her baby.

This is the image we transmit her. Do we need to change our professions?

The beach

Today was a fantastic beach day. Lúa and I went to the Cape Henlopen Beach, south of Delaware.

We drove across the three British-named counties, New Castle, Kent and Sussex. Delaware somtimes sounds very British. It took us about two hours, which include me getting lost with GPS included. Some things technology cannot change. In the end we made it and enjoy it. Some proof below. This beach is part of a state park so the surroundings are amazingly beautiful. It was worth the trip.

Take Lúa to a beach and she'll have fun, fun, fun!

City life

Not all is green in Delaware. Cities also exist. This is Wilmington, its water front by the Christiana river. There are open-air summer concerts and we'll go there this Thursday. It is just 15 min. away from us.

Where is the city here? / ¿Ciudad, dónde?

Ladies and Gents, the city shot!

Shoes

Air shipment has arrived. Two out of 10 boxes are missing. That's a good statistic! At least one of the most important things has arrived: Lúa's shoes!

Daily anecdotes

Anecdote 1: How Lúa plays hide-and-seek
1. She hides behind her bedroom door. I count, look for her, find her. Excitement, screaming!
2. I hide. She counts till 14 (no more no less), looks for me, finds me. Excitement, screaming!
3. She hides behind her bedroom door. I count, look for her, find her. Same excitement and screaming!
4. My turn. When she finds me in a different place, she is like, but "how come? I found you!".
5. Her turn. Where does she hide? Yes, same place.
And this pattern continues for a good while and you can always be sure she is going to be hiding in the same place and she'll be more than excited to be found!

Anecdote 2: Lúa at night
Lúa is in bed after her night story. Five minutes after, she appears in the lounge and says without taking off her eyes from the telly (Spiderman is on) that she wanted a blanket (it must be about 40º C). I believe she may be tricking me.

Anécdota 1: Cómo Lúa juega al escondite
2. Me escondo yo.

American pie

Or the story of how the encounter with our two-houses-away neighbour went:

This evening we were out in the garden talking to our next-door neighbour about how safe this area was and the fact that there were not shootings or any violent incidents when our Texan neighbour showed up.

She wanted to introduced herself to Lúa and me and she was actually bringing us cherry pies and a chocolate cupcake. What we see in movies is true!

This very nice lady brought us four massive cherry pies (to my eyes as I am not familiar with them) and one chocolate cup cake. I thought she had only brought one thinking about Lúa, but there was a different reason. She had passed by the day before and we were not in. So her husband and her ended up eating 5 of the cupcakes between them that same night. That has to be a good signal! They must be delicious!

When we were talking, she mentioned she had seen a groundhog (the size of Lúa!) with one of her tomatoes in its mouth. Our alarms went off! Our tomatoes might be at risk. Our next door neighbour, Marty, confirmed she had seen the groundhog, but certainly not the size of Lúa. (Maybe Texans like to tell good stories!) Our Texan neighbour continued saying that they'd have to take the gun out and shoot it! Adam became restless. He wanted to know the details of the gun, type, size, etc. but was too shy to ask.

We concluded with our next-door neighbour that after all, shootings might be heard in the area. Let's hope the tomato-eating groundhog moves to another safer area.

Some illustrations below:

The looks after the oven

Right out of the oven -hot, hot, hot

As we received them, cupcake included.

Yes, we can!

The hand of God

I said before that Adam would most likely go back to a car auction as he is quite addicted to it and because we need a second car.

He indeed went back. Yesterday. And he came back full of adrenaline and with a bit of a guilty face. He had bought a car. Actually he had bought the second car they brought into the auction room, but it wasn't the car we had actually looked at. You really need to look into the cars as they are not in the best condition and are quite old. He simply liked it and when he heard the low bid he found himself rising his hand (so he says) out of pure excitement. He also thought other people would bid on the car, but nobody did. Ooops, the car is mine! (he thought). So now we have the second car. An old '99 Saab.

My main question was, but did you check it before? Not really, not at all. He hadn't even seen it that day. He simply liked it. In his defense, he had seen it and had a look at it one of the previous times he had been to the car auction. The guys in this car auction already welcomed him as a regular! At least we know the car runs as they drove it in and out of the auction room.

It certainly has the looks, but will it do the job? Check it out:

As of today, Adam's entry to car auctions has been denied/forbidden for obvious reasons.

P.S.: Adam woke up today at 7.oo am worrying about the new car and whether it'd pass the inspection.

Speaking "the" English

This is how Adam mocks the Spanish accent when speaking English, even when I never ever make that mistake. ;)

Yesterday Lúa corrected Adam's English for the first time, while she was speaking in Spanish. She only corrected a specific word he had said. This is just the beginning. I am sure she will soon start correcting both of us. She will try to change Adam's Britishness (if that word exists).

Before the linguistic incident, Lúa had her first direct experience with a boy her age. He is one of Adam's colleague's son. Dereck, his mama and his very young auntie came to the mini-pool to play with Lúa. They had fun. Both played a lot in different ways: Dereck, the boy, was chatting all the time and Lúa played with him in silence. But they understood each other. At the end, Lúa was starting to loosen up. It was cool to see.

After their visit, it is when Lúa corrected Adam. Wait and see, daddy!

Ways of buying cars

A toda velocidad (yo solo entendía la mitad): This car is fully loaded, leather, electric pack, automatic. Nice! Who'd give me 5000, 50, 50, want less, there you're, 45 45, 44, 44, 42, 41, 41 anyone? d'you want it? Give a price! 1500? I could buy a bike with that! Not sold!
